Serrekunda

Serrekunda Town is not an obvious holiday resort destination for tourists visiting The Gambia. Most visitors head out from Banjul Airport and straight to the beach resorts, and check-in to hotels in Kololi / Senegambia, Kotu, Bijilo, Brufut, Fajara, Kerr Sering, Cape Point and other Atlantic Ocean coastal lodges. However, there are a few simple, basic types of hotels in Serrekunda providing minimal amenities and some with air-conditioning.

  Serekunda is the largest urban centre in The Gambia. It is situated close to the Atlantic coast, 13 km south-west of the capital, Banjul, and is formed of nine villages which have grown together into a larger urban area.‚ Serekunda means “home of the Sayer [or Sayerr] family” and is named after its founder, Sayerr Jobe.
